Life over Survival: Part 1

The offer has always been Life.  We had life to the full in the Garden, walking in the presence and light of the One whose image we bear.  But as our brightness faded, the great loss became evident: contentment, security, identity, intimacy, delegated authority — all these and more were relinquished as the Dark Conjurer went after you, the object of God’s affection.

The tragedy that unfolded in our original home stripped us of all that we were designed for, and plunged humankind into a desperate self-help plan of our own making : Survive at All Costs. Echoes are found in the curse — a life of toil and pain was the best we could hope for.

The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.
— Paul

But He came for us.   Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah, boldly proclaimed “I have come that you may have life“ and, even more directly, “I am the Life”.  Not only are you innocent and blameless and redeemed into fullness of life with Him forever, but all that once was lost has been restored.  You have free access to the true Tree of Life.

What does that mean for you?  Does this liberty describe your daily experience? Or are you confronted by the telltale signs of survivalist existence  — fatigue, frustration, even an anger that lurks just below the surface?  Don’t  despair! Now is the time for a journey into all that you have longed for.
