The war we wage as men of God is not a physical fight for power, sex or money. Nor is it a driving desperation to be in control. We know that is the way of this world.
In part, ours is a fight against the evil of lost identity. A battle against the lies which attempt to shroud our true purpose. In faith, we stand for the reconnection to our original selves. And the expression of our passion as sons of God.
Simply said, we wage a war for Kingdom Come.
The low road is full of the distractions and worries of this world. But we know that only one thingis important. This one thing is the portalto everything that is truth, and helps us see beyond the smokescreen that keeps our attention from the precious pearl. It frees us from the Matrix that would love to keep us locked in a deep sleep, oblivious to the field holding a great treasure.
It is simply that we may know Him, and be known by Him, sitting at His beautiful feet and looking deeply into His eyes of love.
As an aside, I feel awkward just writing this — testimony to the work of evil that has kept us blind to the spiritual reality of a romantic God.
He is a fierce and fiery Warrior. But our own warrior is only born when we, as men, can connect with God the Lover. A God who draws us by His art and poetry that is evident everywhere we look. His devotion to us is expressed through an abiding and omniscient attention to every last detail, even numbering the hairs on our heads.
Do we know how to listen for His tenderness? Are our hearts being overwhelmed as the Almighty undoes us with a kiss and says we are his beloved? Can we believe that we are His precious treasure?
I am imagining a world full of deeply connected men who can see beyond the lust of the flesh and the deceitfulness of riches, knowing that these are the trappings of our frightened ego. Men who will stand apart and be loved, becoming wholly present to peace and deeply content to know that they are His.
The cry of every heart is to be filled. And the passion of the Giver is to come and fill them. But it is only the brave hearts who will stake everything — their identity, their reputation, even their very lives — on His promise that He unconditionally loves us now and forever.
This is true courage.
