Good principles. Insightful strategies. Gurus around every corner with a new ten step plan. If the change in us was equal to the resources at our disposal, we would be the most transformed generation to ever wander the planet. Is it possible that life is less of a puzzle to solve, and more of a gift to unwrap? Not something to figure out, but something to open up to?

We see this wisdom in children’s books and in every great story. But as grown-ups it is relegated to a few hours of getting lost in a TV series, or some other enclave of the heart, before we wake up and get on with the grim sameness of every day.

Last week, I was privileged to spend four days with a group of men who were willing to journey to the raw edge. The hurts of the past are not trivial things. But the promise of something beautiful and eternal was held out to each of us. Long forgotten yearnings were kindled as we sat around the fire together, and in the veld on our own.

Thank you brothers for opening up to the possibility of something more. For stepping over Mystery’s threshold as you relinquished the limitations of self effort. I have witnessed courage, and it helped me summon my own. May a sense of wonder and adventure draw us even deeper into the Quest.
